“American Woman Entrepreneur in China:
How the Chinese Mafia Stole My Business”
Part 2 of 2
We were so captivated by Part 1 of Nancy’s real-life experience and are looking forward to hearing the rest of her story!
Nancy is known as an international interior designer and ground-breaking entrepreneur. Living and working in China for 17 years, Nancy founded Nancy’s Lifestyles in Shanghai to present the American lifestyle of home furnishings, accessories, and design to Chinese consumers. Her 12,000 sq ft showroom opened in Shanghai with massive success. “It’s not just a store, it’s an experience,” said Shanghai Daily News. Their front-page headline said, “Nancy’s Lifestyles, Iconic America.”But success turned tragic when her life was threatened, and her store was stolen by the Chinese mafia.
Nancy first traveled to China in 1993 and saw a country just beginning to grow. After years of networking in a country where she didn’t speak the language, Nancy started her inspiring solo entrepreneurial journey by decorating hotel design projects, model homes and private residences, and was asked by the Chinese Government to design the interiors of Chairman Mao’s summer home in Shanghai. Nancy also filmed, produced, and hosted her television show called Nancy’s Lifestyles for China TV.
Nancy is a sought-after guest speaker about her experiences doing business in China. She was a guest speaker at Beijing University, Chapman University, UC Irvine, Heritage Foundation, and many business and executive groups across the country. Nancy also testified in Washington, D.C. before a congressional committee on “What Is Happening to Americans Doing Business in China.” We are so fortunate to have her as our guest speaker.
